In General Celendín is a small town. There are some small shops for the most important things, quite a lot of bakeries and of course the market with a small variety of meat, fruits and vegetables. Money There is a bank: Banco de la Nación, but the ATM only works for cards of this bank and VISA, it doesn't accept other foreign cards. (In Cajamarca and Chachapoyas they do however, in Cajamarca there are several banks and in Chachapoyas at least one Banco de Credito BCP with an ATM). So bring enough soles or dollars along. It is possible to change dollars, but not on a large scale. Spending the night There are various hostels, but they are very basic. Except for some important holidays (like the festivities in July) it is always possible to find at least some kind of accomodation. Take a look at the Bed & Breakfast section for more information about Orange. Food & Beverages There are various places to have a meal or enjoy a drink: from small juicebars to local type of pubs, restaurants, small kitchens in the market. For more information about the Bar-Disco Orange King, take a look here. People People are friendly, sometimes a little shy, but as a rule always curious about tourists! Only few of the Shilicos speak a little English, but if you sit down a while at the Plaza de Armas, probably someone will come up to you to talk. Dangers Up till now Celendín has been a very friendly and quiet place, hopefully it will stay that way. In comparison to the larger coastal cities it is really safe (we cannot guarantee anything however...).
