La Lechuga La Lechuga is situated close to Cruzconga (an hour from Celendín by public transportation). It's possible to reach the ruins all the way by car or bus, or you can go to Cruzconga and walk from there. There are two parts of pre-incan ruins discovered that are interesting to visit. The first one is situated on a hill close to the main road in the small village La Lechuga. The second part you find when you follow the same road to the new village La Fortaleza, where they made a small tourist office as well. The greatest part of both sites is still covered, but you can see some parts, still in good condition.
It's easy to visit from Celendín in one day, by private car as well as with public transportation. You can take an early combi that takes an hour to Cruzconga and walk at most two hours to get to the ruins. The first part up, and then more or less plain.
Or you can wait for a truck to take you there. Every day trucks from La Lechuga go in the morning to Cruzconga to deliver milk, and then return empty. From Cruzconga back to Celendín you'll find enough combi's, cars and buses. In Cruzconga there's also a small restaurant and a little shop. In La Fortaleza it's posible to order a tipical meal from the family that lives just at the side of the ruins (ask for Emiterio Cortéz, he can also show you around). |
