Volunteers

We need volunteers, educated or with experience, in the area of special education, health, fysiotherapy, psychology etc.

And if someone wants to do a thesis/study to give us advice how the project can work the best way possible, that would be great!

Besides the above volunteer "jobs", we can use volunteers who like to teach english. We offer classes for a very low price, so the local people can all afford to participate. All the income goes straight to the project. We don't give certificates and we don't do tests, but most important in the lessons is conversation. There are students that have had english classes at school since they were 4 years old, but still aren't able to speak. We would like to change that.

You don't have to be a teacher, but of course it might help. Your knowledge of english doesn't have to be perfect either, because so far almost all the classes are basic english. Just very few are advanced.

Besides teaching english other options are possible as well. If you have a hobby you would like to teach, dance, guitar, whatever... as long as we can keep the price of the the classes low,... and we can find enough students... a lot is possible.

We would like to say that we can use volunters for short-term stay as well, but we found out that it doesn't work very well. Usually it takes a couple of days before everything is organized to really start, so we prefer volunteers that can stay at least a month.

In the near future we would like to get enough money together to spend a small part of it also on travelling through the province. We would like to help and give advice to parents outside of the city as well. For them it's hard to travel to Celendín, so it would be great if someone could give advice and teach some basic exercises in the small villages. If not directly to the parents, at least to give information to medical information points. Maybe some volunteers would like to travel away from the main road and get to know the small traditional (and poor) villages around Celendín. For this we need people that speak spanish.
